Yes, they are stiff when first unwrapped; wash them before putting them to use, and you will find they are exceptionally warm and soft. They are of a terrific weight...not too heavy as to make you feel smothered, but not so light that you have to pile the blankets on top to stay warm. I have one other set of flannel sheets bought at Target, and they do not compare in quality: not as heavyweight, and they pilled as soon as i washed them. These are woderful! This winter we saw exceptionally cold weather and I did not have o turn on my heater at night with these on my bed.

I have never used flannel sheets before so I do not know whether or not this set is typical. The fabric is surprisingly thick and stiff. The previous reviewer mentioned washing out the sizing, so perhaps it will soften once laundered. If you think this is going to be like the flannel in sleepwear, it's not. It's tablecloth-weight. However, for winter use, the thickness is a plus. Not quite what I expected, but for the price, I can't knock it. -- You get what you pay for
Love the print. Washed to remove sizing prior to putting on bed. Material did NOT fade after washing and is bright and colorful. No pilling as yet and feels soft. Print is only on one side of fabric. Love the way this looks in the bunkhouse. -- Great print
